An Open Letter to the Management of Tea Time in Palo Alto

UPDATED: May 24, 2009

Dear Management:

Love your place. Really do. Those heart-shaped chicken salad sandwiches — AWESOME!!! Good, fresh-brewed iced tea and free Wi-Fi for customers are also big pluses.

However, we've got to talk about your iced tea pricing. Charging $3.50 PLUS tax is high but I can deal with it. What I can't deal with is having to pay $3.50 PLUS tax for refills too. Charging full price for refills is abusing your customers, pure and simple.

And don't give me the old, "Well, we ARE in Palo Alto," line. I've eaten at some of the best restaurants in San Francisco. They rarely charge as much as $3.50 for iced tea and, if they do, they include free refills or, at worst, refills at a nominal cost.

I'd like to continue patronizing your establishment when I make it to Palo Alto. But, if you don't fix your iced tea refill pricing, it ain't gonna happen.

Sincerely,
Grumpy

P.S., In case you didn't think I was serious, I was in PA again yesterday. Drank iced tea at University Coffee Café. They charge $2.00 for iced tea with free refills. They get my biz until you change your pricing and/or refill policy. Mackie did stop by for some of those open-faced, heart-shaped chicken salad sandwiches to go. Yummy!
