Double Ouch!
Once again, something involving my favorite restaurant, COCO500, made me go ouch! This time, it wasn't something they did, it was something done to them. Actually, to their Executive Chef, Jennifer Biesty.
Top Chef told her to pack her knives and go home. Freakin' idiots!!!
HTF do you send home someone from a team that actually met the rules of the challenge when another team didn't incorporate a required ingredient??? Even if the other team's dish tasted better, was that because of their execution or because they played fast and loose with the rules??? I have a pretty good idea of what sea bass would taste like with chorizo versus with Polish sausage. IMHO, the sea bass team gained a huge advantage by not incorporating the required Polish. If the Jen and Stephanie had taken as many liberties with the rules of the challenge, might not they have produced a tastier dish???
Obviously, I don't get to taste the show's food. But looking at the pictures, Jen's and Steph's dish made me hungry. Several others did not. The squash soup for one. Visualizing the sea bass with the requried Polish for another.
Jen got hammered for including a slice of toasted bread in her team's dish but I could see myself breaking off a piece and topping it with a grilled asparagus spear, some tapenade or both. Yummy! Wish I had some right now!
Granted, I'm biased. She's a local girl. I've eaten dozens of meals that Jen cooked at COCO500. They've ranged from very, very good to toungasmic.
I'm also realistic enough to know that there are a number of other highly talented chefs on the show. Maybe the time would have come when everyone else left really was better than her and sending her packing was the right thing to do. But that sure as shootin' wasn't tonight.
Jen, if you read this, put the dish that got you eliminated on your menu. I'll order it. Promise.
