More Than Fat Sandwiches

Last week, while picking up take-out from La Torta Gorda for Mackie (aren’t I the nice boyfriend?), I noticed a decidedly non-sandwich item being served to another patron. Curious, I asked about it and was pointed to an off-menu specials list that I’d seen at least a dozen times but never grokked.

Duh! Especials means specials, dummy! And, you can order them!!!

After coming to this grand revelation of the obvious, I determined to branch out from sandwiches the next time I hit LTG. That was today.

I ordered the mole poblano ($8.95). Best I’ve had outside of Mexico. Rich, dark in color, slightly spicy, hint of chocolate but not the primary taste – just great! Served over a chicken leg and thigh. Side of rice and refried beans with two strips of queso fresco. I could have done without the peas, corn and carrots in the rice. But that’s picking a nit. It was great.

Can’t wait to try some of the other especials, now that the scales have fallen from my eyes.
