The Rodney Dangerfield of Restaurant Blogging

[ALERT: START WHINE]

I don’t get no respect, at least not from the Chron.

First, they open their article about the intense reader reaction to Michael Bauer awarding four stars to Michael Mina with an excerpt from my comment on sfgate.com and it’s the only anonymous attribution in the whole piece.

Then, Michael Bauer extensively quotes my Bauer Curve posting in his blog and doesn’t give me a link.

C’mon peeps, show a Grump some love!!!

The Chronicle is notorious for omitting what should be beyond obvious, i.e. linking to relevant websites in the online version of articles. Recently, Chip Johnson did an article whose entire objective was to showcase Oakland bloggers, and yet the online article failed to provide direct links to most of those blogs, including the blog that was the centerpiece of the article.

Ever since the Chron cut staff and started permitting readers to add comments, it essentially descended from a real newspaper to a large group blog. It might as well just come to terms with that newfound identity and dish out link love in the way that most bloggers do. But the Chron probably refrains from doing so to avoid acknowledging the fact that a great deal of the groundbreaking journalism going on in the Bay Area right now is coming from blogs -- not from the Chron.
